Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith welcomes the announcement that low income NSW households are expected to save an average of $140 a year on their energy bills as part of the NSW Government’s $26.8 million Home Energy Action program.

Applications are open for eligible households to receive a 40 and 50 per cent subsidy to replace their old fridges and TVs respectively, with new energy efficient models, under the NSW Government’s Home Energy Action program’s $4 million appliance stream.

“By replacing an inefficient fridge it will save a household up to $200 a year on its energy bill and by replacing an inefficient TV it will save household up to $125 a year on its energy bill,” said Stuart Ayres.

The Good Guys, selected as the program’s retail partner, is contributing discounts to further reduce the upfront cost of these appliances.

“I encourage eligible residents to contact The Good Guys call centre so they can assist in processing applications and to provide more information,” said Stuart Ayres.

The NSW Government expects 20,000 low income households to each replace one of these appliances, which will lead to an average of $140 in bill savings each year.

The program will collectively save households $2.8 million per year once the subsidies have been used.

Eligible households must be:

  • A NSW resident
  • Hold either a valid Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Low Income Health Care Card from Centrelink or a Gold Card from Veterans’ Affairs
  • The fridge being replaced is six years or older and the TV being replaced must be a plasma or cathode ray tube (CRT) TV.

The offer is available until the $4 million program budget is exhausted.

To apply for a subsidy, visit http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/households/appliance-replacement-offer.htm or call The Good Guys call centre on 1300 601 795.
