Penrith’s Jamison Park will undergo a much needed upgrade including the addition of sporting and gym facilities, playground and amenities to encourage greater community participation in local activities.

Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing Troy Grant alongside Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres today announced the NSW Government would provide $934,901 or 50% of the project following a successful ClubGRANTS Category 3 funding application.

“This upgrade meets the needs of the growing population in the region and will encourage greater participation in grassroots sport and recreation,” Mr Grant said.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government, through the ClubGRANTS scheme, has matched dollar for dollar the contribution by the Penrith City Council to this important project.

“The combined $1.86 million project will ensure the families of the Penrith region get the quality of sports and recreational spaces they deserve,” Mr Grant said.

The project includes the development of an all age activity zone including a multisport activity court, outdoor health and fitness gym, children’s playground and senior’s gym and an upgrade to surrounding sporting fields. It will increase the capacity of Jamison Park to support growth of over 10% in participation rates.

Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said the upgrade will enhance an already well utilised community asset.

“Jamison Park is the beating heart of a healthy and active Penrith. It’s our most important and utilised sporting and community precinct. These upgrades will ensure even more locals have access to top class facilities,” Mr Ayres said.

“Thousands of people use Jamo Park every week and this is an absolutely fantastic outcome for our community. I applaud Penrith Council for the quality of their application.

“Their determination and application saw off many rival submissions through the ClubsGRANTS process and shone as a real winner.

“This is an important and very welcome project for my community which will be delivered by the Council and the NSW Government working together,” Mr Ayres said.

Current users of the precinct include the Nepean Football Association, Nepean Dragons FC, St Marys Band Club FC, Penrith FC, Penrith RSL FC, Penrith District Netball Association, Penrith Junior Rugby League, Penrith District Cricket Association, Penrith Junior Cricket Association, Jamison Park Little Athletics, schools, PSSA, multiple fitness groups, Heart Foundation Walking Group and the South Penrith Seniors Group.
