Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today announced that more than 50 new commuter parking spaces will soon are now available for customers using Penrith Station.
“These new spaces, located on Jane Street, are in addition to 97 spaces on Lord Sheffield Circuit opened to customers earlier this year – meaning this government has provided 150 new parking spaces for Penrith customers this year alone,” Stuart Ayres said.
The new spaces have been delivered as part of the NSW Government’s initiative to release around 1,200 rail staff parking spaces at more than 100 stations across the state.
“We understand that a lack of parking around the station is a big issue for customers, which is why I’m committed to doing something about it,” Stuart Ayres said.
“We are also planning to build a 300-space, three level multi-storey car park on the same block of land where the existing commuter car park on Lord Sheffield Circuit is.
“We are investigating options on how best to deliver this work as quickly and as efficiently as possible. The full scope of this work, including the exact number of spaces and construction timeline, will be confirmed later this year”.
In a further boost for customers, a major upgrade of Penrith Station is another step closer, with a contract for the work to be awarded shortly.
“Penrith customers are set to benefit from a new station concourse, lifts and stairs, as well as a new bus interchange,” Stuart Ayres said.
“The upgrade will assist thousands of Western Sydney customers, especially older people, those with a disability and parents with prams. It will make catching public transport a much more attractive option.
Once a contractor is appointed, detailed design for the improvements will get underway.
The community will be given a chance to view proposed designs and plans for the station upgrade later this year.
“When these improvements are completed, the station will be more accessible for all customers.”
Other improvements planned for Penrith include a new secure bike shed with 30 spaces and safety features. Installation of the bike shed, which will be free for cyclists to use, is expected to start later this year.
The additional commuter car parking, station upgrade and new secure big shed is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver accessible, modern and integrated transport infrastructure.
