Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith joined Australian Air Force Cadets from Glenbrook RAAF base to encourage residents in Penrith and the Lower Blue Mountains to roll up their sleeves to help clean up graffiti as part of NSW Graffiti Removal Day on 26 October.

Graffiti Removal Day is a joint partnership between the NSW Government and Rotary Down Under aimed at encouraging local communities to get involved in the campaign to stop graffiti.

“Every year graffiti vandalism costs NSW more than $100 million to remove from public assets, community facilities and private property,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Graffiti Removal Day gives us all an opportunity to do our bit to combat graffiti and clean up our local area. This year Penrith and the Lower Blue Mountains have 10 sites nominated for the clean-up day.”

“The NSW Government is proud to be working with community groups such as the Australian Air Force Cadets, Rotary and Penrith Council as well as great sponsors such as Dulux, Selleys, Brookfield Johnson Controls and Smart Graffiti on this event.”

“People who volunteer will be supplied with cleaning materials, safety equipment and will receive training on how to safely remove graffiti.

“Those people who can’t attend can still support the event by promoting it on Facebook or Twitter or by simply telling their friends, family and workmates about the day.

“Graffiti Removal Day is about helping us identify, remove and prevent vandalism from happening in our local communities.

“By working together we can reduce graffiti and educate young people about the negative impacts of vandalism to help deter anti-social and destructive behaviour.”

To volunteer or nominate a clean-up site please complete an online registration form at www.graffitiremovalday.org.au

Graffiti Removal Day will be held on Sunday 26 October between 10am and 4pm.
