Local Issues in Penrith
My first action as the then Liberal candidate for Penrith last year was to call Andrew Stoner MP, the Coalition Shadow Minister for Roads and talk with him about safety issues on Victoria Bridge.
The Bridge has been unsafe for years. I established a Victoria Bridge Taskforce to bring together local expertise on the issue and try to help identify a solution. I have spoken about the bridge in Parliament, and I'm proud to say that I managed to get a feasibility study undertaken by the government, although like everything else that NSW Labor tries to do it came in a month late, at the end of November.
Since then the Taskforce has looked at the feasibility study and…

The NSW Liberals & Nationals are actively working to improve the quality of care provided at Nepean Hospital.
During the election we committed to providing an additional 25 nurses and 50 beds to address the hospital's extensive waiting list and better service the local community. In this year's budget alone another 26 beds have been provided.
We are also committed to investing in telehealth facilities, because not every patient is in a position to travel into our hospital. With $500,000 allocated from the 2011/12 Budget, it is expected that up to $2M will be allocated toward a telehealth pilot initiative based at Nepean Hospital over the next four years. It will connect patients to medical practitioners via the internet, an…

Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School
Nepean High is a great local school with a bright future ahead.
It wasn't that long ago when the then-Premier Nathan Rees announced the school as a creative and performing arts high - but provided no additional resources.
Shortly after being elected I was approached by the Parents and Citizens Association at Nepean High and together we campaigned for the construction of a creative and performaning arts centre to support this new role for the school.
It is my pleasure to note that the NSW Government is now committed to providing this centre and the school community will no longer be adversely afftected through the specialist role allocated by the previous government to this school. This centre has been listed…

Western Sydney's Roads
NSW Labor has taken Western Sydney for granted through 16 long years. Their neglect is obvious every day in traffic jams and bottlenecks throughout the region, for example at the M4-Northern Rd interchange, and on the motorways themselves. Western Sydney's roads are congested and often unsafe.
Barry O'Farrelll has released a $100 million plan for Western Sydney's roads - you can read more about the announcement here.
M4 – Northern Rd Interchange
The interchange has all the hallmarks of a bright idea gone wrong through a lack of proper consultation. Glenmore Park residents were having difficulty before the installation of the new lights at the interchange, and I understand that it has helped them.
Unfortunately, this has…

Waratah CarriagesThe Waratah carriages are a clear example of why Labor can't be trusted toget transport right. Ever. They were promised back in 2007, when the LaborMinister pledged to have them all in operation by the end of 2010.Fast forward to 2011, and in early January not only was there not a singleWaratah carriage operational, but there was news that the carriages wereeven further delayed as the company contracted by Labor put a freeze ontrading of its sharesand announced delivery would not be completed untill 2014.Only the NSW Liberals and Nationals can fix this debacle and deliverair-conditioned carriages to the Western Line.North-West and South-West Rail LinksThese rail links have been on and off Labor's agenda nearly as often asthey've changed Premiers.…

It seems bus timetables in Penrith are changing time and time again, andeach change brings a worse result for Penrith and the lower Mountains.I have met here with the Shadow Transport Minister, Gladys Berejiklian andlocal residents who have been adversely affected by the new timetables, suchas the removal of the 791 bus. This has left people in the South high anddry – and that's only one change.I'll keep on fighting for better services to Penrith – and that includesmore and improved bus shelters.

As a commuter to the city during the sitting weeks of parliament, I understand the high demand for parking at railway stateions in the Penrith electorate.
Constructipon is underway for the multi-deck commuter carpark to the north of Penrith station. This is a jointly funded project receiving contributions from both the state and federal governments, with construction works under the co-ordination of Penrith City Council. When finished, the new carpark will hold up to 1000 extra cars.
Kingswood Station is also undergoing imrovements to the parking facilities with improved vehicular access to parking spaces on the Great Western Highway and improved lighting and surveillance of commuter parking spaces on the northern side of the station. It is anticipated that these…

This is an issue very close to my heart. I said in my first speech inParliament that if local business is the backbone of the community, thencarers are its heart.Together with the great team at the Penrith Disabilities Resource CentreI've campaigned for more accessible facilities, like the Penrith CourtHouse, which had only a single courtroom with wheelchair access.I've hosted a Disabilities Forum in Penrith, bringing together the Federaland State Shadow Ministers for Disabilities in order to meet those locals atthe coal face of the sector, every day waking up to the challenge of livingwith disability.I've talked in Parliament about this forum, and about carers and theirchallenges. About how the Penrith community pulls together around theirneighbours and families, and I welcomed…

The Building Community Partnerships Program, gives funding to local not for profit groups who are in need of infrastructure. Each application is evaluated by the local Member for Parliament on its contribution to community life, as well as by government experts who look at its economic benefits.I was given the opportunity to work with local community groups and deliver $500,000 worth of funding this year. I took a very hands-on approach to each application, visiting their facilities and seeing their work first-hand.
It's a privilege to have been able to approve some of that money for this work with our community's most disadvantaged. One of the great things about this program is that it enables the local member of Parliament to engage…
