Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today joined Jane Gold of Penrith Women’s Health Centre to announce that local services for children, young people, families and communities in Penrith will continue to support families and communities to overcome complex challenges.
Services in Penrith will receive an extension of $16.432 million funding until mid-2017 for targeted earlier intervention and intensive programs.
This funding is part of the NSW Government’s $233 million commitment to intervening early to address issues in families which put children at risk of harm and likelihood of entering the child protection system.
“Extending funding to mid-2017 will provide certainty for our community partners that provide important services like case management, parenting programs and domestic violence support,” Stuart Ayres said.
Between now and 2017 the NSW Government through the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) will work closely with service providers in Penrith to co-design an improved targeted earlier intervention service system in NSW.
“It is important that the reach and impact of earlier intervention programs is maximised so families and communities have better outcomes,” Stuart Ayres said.
Jane Gold expressed her thanks to the NSW Liberal Government in recognising the serious nature of Domestic and Family Violence and the required support systems needed in assisting families through these difficult times. For Penrith Women’s Health Centre it means the Staying Home Leaving Violence Program continues the important work it has provided to our Community since 2010 keeping women and children safe in their own homes therefore avoiding homelessness for these vulnerable families.. Our hope is to also retain a specialised Domestic Violence Case Management Worker to meet the needs of women and their children who don’t fit the criteria for the SHLV Program as well.
