The team at Sailability NSW in Penrith will benefit from $9,270 under the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships Program to purchase a custom-made safety and rescue boat built to meet the special needs of the people they support, Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres announced today.
\”The team of volunteers, carers and sponsors at Sailability NSW do a fantastic job in bringing people with special requirements into contact with recreational sailing and our beautiful Penrith Lakes precinct.\” Mr Ayres said today.
\”Sailability provide people with special needs and disabilities with ‘access boats’ of various capabilities to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the freedom of sailing regardless of physical barrier that may otherwise exist.
\”The funding of this new boat from Penrith’s Community Building Partnership allocation will help encourage more people to take advantage of our beautiful Lakes Precinct.\”
Mr Ayres met with Jack Hunt and a number of the volunteers, carers and clients who benefit from the day-to-day operations of the organisation.
\”Owning our own safety boat will allow us to fit it out, tailoring it to our own needs and requirements, unlike the current arrangements where we have to borrow and hire from others. It’ll make the everyday running of our boats that much easier.\” Mr Hunt said.
\”Ideally a new rigid inflatable boat (RIB) will be 3.4 metres long and able to carry at least four people. I’d like to thank Stuart Ayres for the role he played in assessing the merits of our application and look forward to taking delivery of the new boat in the not too distant future.\”
