Concord Golf Club Secures Nsw Open

NSW’s premier golf tournament has a new home for the next two years at Concord Golf Club in Sydney’s Inner West.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the NSW Open Golf Championship will be played at the famous layout from 25 – 28 March 2021.

“The players who qualify through the regional tournaments will be playing for the ultimate prize on one of the best courses in NSW,” Mr Barilaro said.

“This investment is vital to ensure one of the most important fixtures remains on the Australian golf calendar.”

Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government has committed $2.1 million over three years to fund the NSW Open and Regional Qualifying Events.

“It’s fantastic we can bring the best in NSW Golf back to Concord to challenge for the Kel Nagle Cup,” Mr Ayres said.

“Supporting this event is so important and we will work with Golf NSW to ensure they can deliver a COVIDSafe event that delivers a shot in the arm for the NSW economy.”

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the chance to showcase the best in NSW Golf will reap benefits for the whole community.

“This tournament has been the stepping stone to greatness for so many of our state’s best golfers,” Mr Lee said.

“Golf is a favourite Aussie past-time for men, women, girls and boys because it’s fun and keeps you fit. I’m proud we can provide a platform for our elite golfers to shine.”

Member for Drummoyne John Sidoti said he can’t wait to welcome back the prestigious tournament to Concord Golf Club.

“Concord has already hosted the NSW Open an impressive ten times in its 90-year history,” Mr Sidoti said.

“Some of Australia’s greatest have tasted victory here with Greg Norman lifting the Kel Nagle Cup at Concord three times and I’m confident we will see another star of the future lift the trophy here very soon.”
