Work has begun on the new childcare centre at Nepean Hospital, with Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today joining NBMLHD Chief Executive Kay Hyman and District Board Chair Peter Collins to turn the first sod on construction.

“Today is an important day as we mark the start of work on this new modern centre that is securing the future of childcare services at Nepean Hospital for staff and their families,’ said Stuart Ayres.

“During the construction period, childcare services will operate as normal in the current centre until the new facility is ready to move in to.”

“Returning to work after starting a family can be emotional so having this service on campus helps out.  It also ensures the hospital can continue to retain and attract highly skilled health professionals by supporting their families,’ said Stuart Ayres.

Staff and parents had the opportunity to participate in the planning process to ensure the new spaces in the childcare centre meet children’s needs for years to come. The new childcare centre will provide 68 spaces in a brand new, bright and open and modern facility.

The tender to build the new childcare centre was recently awarded to Donnolley Construction and work is scheduled for completion in mid-2020.

In 2016, the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government committed $576 million for Stage 1 of the Nepean Hospital transformation. A further $450 million was committed last year for Stage 2.

“The new multi-story car park opened earlier this year, construction of the new 14 storey clinical tower has commenced and the upgrade to the Nepean Cancer Care Centre is well underway,” added Stuart Ayres.
