Defence Industry Supports Growth Of Indigenous Businesses

Two NSW companies, who have already tasted success in the defence industry, have collaborated to launch a new Indigenous-owned and Supply Nation registered manufacturing company.

Indigee Metals is a joint venture between the JNC Group and Precision Metal Group (PMG) that will extend their collaborative relationship and harness their respective strengths to deliver high-performance bracketry and welded components to service and protect Australian warfighters.

This new business will work across regional areas to establish career opportunities for Indigenous youth. Indigee Metals will focus on upskilling the next generation of specialist welders to deal with exotic and armoured materials.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said he was proud to see the companies joining forces to use their existing strengths to support Defence and Indigenous communities.

“PMG has invested heavily in developing its future workforce in Western Sydney to ensure there is a pipeline of qualified talent that can deliver the highest standards in manufacturing,” Mr Ayres said.

“We’re also here today to celebrate PMG’s success with Parramatta Marist High School from Western Sydney and their proactive approach to deliver a school-based welding and STEM program.”

The Minister was pleased to present certificates of completion to three students who have successfully completed the first school-based armoured welder training.

PMG CEO Jason Ellis said his vision was to undertake long-term projects to enhance their facilities and uplift their workforce with engineering cadetships, apprenticeships, and a focus on programs targeting women, Indigenous Australians and veterans.

“Our focus is on delivering Australian sovereignty with Indigenous participation. Our job as part of the defence industry is to harness opportunities to sustain jobs in manufacturing for future generations,” said JNC Group Australia CEO Jeremy Blanch.
