Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith was joined NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian during a visit to Glenbrook Lagoon to announce funding of $5,000 for the Glenbrook Lagoon Bushcare Group.

Stuart Ayres said it was my pleasure to recommend this project for this funding that will go towards improving the aquatic habitat of the lagoon.

“The work undertaken by the group in recent years has seen the lagoon become home to a small population of the Eastern Longneck turtle and maintaining a healthy breeding habitat is imperative to increase their numbers,” said Stuart Ayres.

The Glenbrook Lagoon Bushcare Group volunteers spend several hours each month under the guidance of a Blue Mountains City Council Bushcare Officer working on preserving the local diversity of the lagoon.

“The volunteers do a great job in removing invasive weeks and implementing bush regeneration techniques to maintain the lagoon,” said Stuart Ayres.

Funding of $5,000 was also announced for Glenbrook Little Athletics Club (GLAC).

“GLAC provides terrific opportunities for children aged from 4 to 17 of all levels of athletic ability to participate in fun and friendly competition,” said Stuart Ayres.

“This grant will be used to purchase 20 new hurdles and a new line marker,” said Stuart Ayres.

The President of GLAC said having this new equipment will be of great benefit to the Club, particularly as we are hosting the Little Athletics Western Ranges Zone Carnival in December this year.

GLAC is about promoting Family, Fun and Fitness and caters to children of all levels of athletic ability there is however a program of representative events that offers opportunities for competition against athletes from other centres.
