Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Minister for Tourism today announced that Stacey Martin has been named as the lucky recipient of a NSW Government grant, which will see her undertake a Diploma of Event Management.

The grant is part of the Government’s Regional Business Event Development Fund, which aims to attract more business event visitors into rural and regional areas across the State.

Aspiring event managers living in rural and regional NSW are being given a head start in their career, with the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency offering six scholarships, worth $6,500 each across the State.

The opportunity is part of Destination NSW’s ongoing focus on delivering the State Government’s $6 million Regional Conferencing Strategy & Action Plan. The partnership, with Meetings and Events Australia (MEA), is helping the future leaders in regional tourism, with a scholarship program providing a Diploma of Event Management.

Stuart Ayres recognised the importance of the program and congratulated Stacey on behalf of the Penrith community.

“We’re proud to be supporting emerging talent for the tourism and events industry by offering these scholarships again in 2019, following a similar successful partnership with MEA in 2018.

“I’m so thrilled to see Stacey recognised for her desire to grow her skills and look forward to seeing the positive impact this course will have on her career. This program has been designed to accommodate study by distance learning and aims to upskill NSW rural and regional workforce in the hope that they will continue contributing to the industry and help drive the State’s economy,” Stuart Ayres said.

Stacey who works in Tourism Marketing at Penrith City Council said “I really enjoy the challenges of working on events in the local community and this Scholarship will broaden my skills.”

“The training and knowledge received through this Scholarship will provide me with the expertise to take on more challenging events,” added Stacey.

Stuart Ayres noted the impact of regional business events on regional and rural areas.

“The regional conferencing sector presents a significant growth opportunity for NSW, because we know that these types of events generate extra business for our restaurants, attractions and accommodation providers. This creates more jobs and ultimately fuels the local economy – so it’s only natural that we look to invest in up and coming talent who share this passion.

“In fact, overnight business visitors spend, on average, $237 per night in NSW – nearly double those of overnight leisure visitors. They are also more likely to return for a future holiday with family or friends,” Stuart Ayres said.

The NSW Regional Business Event Development Fund is managed and administered by the State’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. For more information on the Fund, go to www.meetinnsw.com.au.
