Major Boost for Motor Sport IN Western Sydney

Sydney Motorsport Park in Eastern Creek will be upgraded under a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to attract advanced motor sport high value jobs and world class events to Western Sydney.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres announced more than $33 million will be invested in Sydney Motorsport Park to install permanent lighting, improve the Sydney Dragway and create Australia’s only Motor Sports Centre of Excellence.

“Motor sport is the fourth most watched sport in the country and thousands of people in Western Sydney love it which is why we want to ensure the sport has a strong presence in Western Sydney in the future,” Mr Ayres said.

“Adding lights to Sydney Motorsport Park will make is more attractive for major events and allow motor enthusiasts to enjoy a lot more track time.

“This will make Sydney Motorsport Park the Silverstone of the Southern Hemisphere.”

Improvements will also be made to the Sydney International Dragway at Sydney Motorsport Park and work will start to find a site for Motorcycling NSW within the precinct.

Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) President Andrew Papadopoulos has welcomed the improvements to the facilities and the commitment to develop Australia’s first and only Motor Sports Centre of Excellence at Eastern Creek.

“Today’s announcement is a significant boost for motor sport in Australia,” Papadopoulos said.

“CAMS can also confirm the Motor Sport Centre of Excellence will also be able to be utilised to host training for those involved in motor sport in the Asia Pacific region, which will bring with it significant economic benefits for NSW.

“The Centre is a unique opportunity for Western Sydney which will attract advanced motor sport engineering jobs.”

Supercars Australia CEO Sean Seamer said this was a great step forward for the sport in Sydney.

“The NSW Government and Minister Ayres should be applauded for their support of NSW’s premier permanent facility in the heart of Sydney’s booming Western Suburbs,” Mr Seamer said.

“The 2018 Night Race was a fantastic proof of concept and since then, Glenn and his team have done a wonderful job to secure these significant upgrades which will establish Sydney Motorsport Park as an elite, 24/7 motorsport facility.”

The community will also benefit from the upgrade of Sydney Motorsport Park which will be opened up for greater community use including driver training programs.

This builds on the NSW Liberals & Nationals strong commitment to motorsport, including bringing the V8s to Newcastle and upgrades to Mt Panorama at Bathurst.
