Vulnerable people in need of affordable housing will benefit from a brand new Social and Affordable Housing Fund site, which is now complete and ready for tenants to move in.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said the completion of the 68-unit development in Western Sydney, the largest in the SAHF program since its inception, brings phase one of the program to the halfway point.
“I am delighted to say today that we are now halfway through phase one of the Fund’s target of 2200 builds, with more than 1100 dwellings either complete or under construction,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Our commitment to deliver more housing means that people in Western Sydney who are currently struggling to find a stable, affordable place to live will have a home for Christmas.”
Ms Goward, who met the new tenants today, said hundreds of people now live in homes they can afford thanks to the NSW Government’s push to grow and revitalise the State’s social and affordable housing stock.
“The NSW Government’s record building program is evident in Sydney and across NSW – more social housing, more opportunities for tenants, and a better experience for people in social housing,” Ms Goward said.
“The SAHF is not just about putting a roof over someone’s head – each tenant is linked to tenancy management services as well as job, training and medical support services.”
Mr Ayres welcomed the development.
“This state-of-the-art complex will assist close to a hundred people who are struggling in the private market,” Mr Ayres said.
“These homes are fit-for-purpose, contemporary and well designed, close to schools, employment and vital services so people can be involved, not isolated.”
The SAHF is a key initiative of Future Directions for Social Housing in NSW, the NSW Government’s 10-year plan for social housing, which is expected to deliver 27,000 social housing, 500 affordable housing and 40,000 private housing dwellings.
