New Commuter Car Park for Glenbrook Train Customers

Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today joined Penrith MP Stuart Ayres and Blue Mountains MP Roza Sage to announce a new commuter car park will be built at Glenbrook Station, providing 50 additional car spaces for local commuters.

Ms Berejiklian said the project is being funded as part of the NSW Government’s $770 million Transport Access Program, a new initiative designed to deliver crucial public transport infrastructure where it is needed most.

“We have heard the strong message from customers that one of the barriers to catching public transport is availability of parking near key stations and interchanges, and I’m pleased we’re able to address that here in Glenbrook today,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“In the last six months the NSW Government has committed to building more than 1,200 additional car spaces at train stations across the rail network.

“I am pleased to announce Glenbrook commuters will now benefit from this latest injection of funding, with 50 new car spaces to be made available for the local community.”

Mr Ayres welcomed the announcement, which follows an extra 30 new weekly train services on the Western Line added by the O’Farrell Government.

“I’m delighted the Minister has listened to the local community and will deliver this much need commuter car park,” he said.

“As well as more parking, the NSW Government will also install CCTV, improved lighting and signs to ensure the new parking facility is safe and accessible for the local community,” he said.

Ms Sage said the NSW Government was committed to making public transport a more attractive option for Western Sydney and Blue Mountains customers.

“The additional car spaces will make catching the train more convenient for customers and hopefully encourage more people to choose public transport for their daily commute,” she said.

Plans for the car park are now underway with public consultation and construction set to begin early next year. The car park is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2013 or early 2014.
