New Creative and Performing Arts Centre for Nepean High

Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres MP, together with Shadow Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli, has today announced that a NSW Liberals and Nationals government will fund a $3 million new Creative and Performing Arts Centre for Nepean High.

Meeting outside the school with Julie Tyers, Nepean High’s P&C President, Stuart Ayres MP said that students and staff at the school deserved this investment.

”This is about producing real change for the families and students at Nepean High. It’s not enough simply to rebadge Nepean as a specialist creative and performing art school. You have to be willing to make the real commitment required. That’s why I’ve fought hard for this funding commitment, and it’s why Adrian Piccoli has committed a NSW Liberals and Nationals Government to providing a creative and performing arts centre,” Mr Ayres said.

P&C President Julie Tyers welcomed the announcement.

”Our students are finally receiving the support they need. With the new creative and performing arts centre they will be able to pursue their passions in a dedicated learning space, rather than a hastily converted classroom,” Ms Tyers said.

”We are so excited to receive this commitment, and I want to thank Stuart for his work inside and outside Parliament supporting Nepean High.”

Shadow Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli said that Nepean High’s creative and performing arts centre would be similar to the centre built in Wollongong.

”The NSW Liberals and Nationals are delivering real improvements on the ground. A name change without funding is meaningless, and we are going to make sure that the students and staff of Nepean High receive more than just a letterhead change. This is a significant commitment which is going to deliver real benefits to the area,” Mr Piccoli said.

Stuart Ayres MP said that this announcement was an example of the NSW Liberals and Nationals approach to Penrith and the lower Mountains.

”We believe that government should be about more than a press release, and we are going to deliver for Nepean High’s students and their families. It’s this sort of local change which is going to help make NSW number one again.”
