Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith joined Mr Mick McConnell, President and Mr Brian Cartwright of the City of Penrith RSL Sub Branch to announce funding of $2,500 to assist in furnishing the new drop in centre for Veterans.

“It is my pleasure to announce this funding that will go towards furniture and amenities to make it comfortable and welcoming,” said Stuart Ayres.

“Many veterans are young men and women, in their 20s and 30s and this centre will provide a safe haven for them to have a chat and a cuppa in a non-threatening environment,” said Stuart Ayres.

Mr Cartwright welcomed the funding saying the drop-in centre will be utilised, and to some extent run by, the veterans themselves and will also be a space available to Homes for Heroes as part of their community engagement program.

The new centre will have its own entrance in an alcohol free zone separate from the RSL Club itself.  It will also assist homeless veterans to re-engage positively with the community.
