New Recreational Investment for Western Parkland City

New community infrastructure projects supporting the growth of the Western Parkland City are on the way, with the Western Sydney City Deal’s Liveability Program opening for a second round of funding applications today.

Federal Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge said the funding would continue making Western Sydney an ever more attractive place to live.

“Great cities aren’t built in a day – they have to be nurtured and supported in a partnership between the community, business and government, which is the very model of the Western Sydney City Deal,” Mr Tudge said.

“This investment is delivering on a key plank of the City Deal, which is a joint agreement between the three tiers of government that sets the investment foundation for the Parkland City to become a fully realised 21st century city.”

Today’s announcement sees the remaining $25 million of a total $170 million funding pool open to applications from Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Liverpool, and Wollondilly Councils for local projects that promote healthy active lifestyles and support the arts, culture and creativity.

NSW Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the program funded beloved community destinations, from the local to the landmark.

“Western Sydney is a unique and diverse place to live and grow up – it’s critical that we retain that quality of lifestyle even while the education, business and employment opportunities continue to improve,” Mr Ayres said.

“Global business powerhouses are clamouring to call the Western Parkland City home, creating unprecedented opportunities for local businesses and workers, but life isn’t all work. You want to take the kids to that great park down the street on the weekend and the Liveability Program is about realising that.

“Through cooperation and shared vision, the Western Parkland City will be home to a globally enviable way of life.”

Projects already funded in the first round of funding include:

  • Improvements to sports fields and facilities
  • A new swimming lagoon
  • Showground improvements
  • Local park upgrades
  • Town centre remodelling
  • Better access to community facilities for people with disabilities
  • A skate park

Applications are now open and close on Friday 30 August 2019.
