Nsw Adds More Jobs Than Any Other State

NSW has maintained the lowest unemployment rate among the states in Australia and has added 38,500 jobs—more than any other state—in the past month according to the latest ABS data.  The unemployment rate is sitting at 4.6 per cent, well below the national average of 5.2 per cent.

The State’s participation rate rose for the second month in a row and is now at a record high of 66.2 per cent. This is now above the national rate for the first time since 1984.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the state’s strong employment numbers reflected the NSW Government’s record infrastructure pipeline, which was adding thousands of jobs to the state’s economy.

“Our record investment in schools, hospitals and public transport projects across the state is driving job creation helping workers develop new skills for the future,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Our strong financial management is allowing us to make investments where they are needed whether it be through our cost of living measures or building the infrastructure this state needs to take it from good to great.

“This is in stark contrast to Labor who want to cancel projects and slash jobs including the Sydney Metro Southwest project from Sydenham to Bankstown, which would have resulted in 1500 jobs, including 500 apprenticeships, being lost.”

Women’s participation remains strong at 60.5 per cent, after reaching a record high of 60.6 per cent in January this year.

Minister for Jobs Stuart Ayres said it is fantastic to see women’s participation in the workforce so high.

“Women’s contribution to the workforce is vital for the economic and social independence of women and to the economic prosperity of NSW,” Mr Ayres said.

“Over recent years we’ve seen the number of women employed in traditionally male dominated industries increase, which is great to see.

“The barriers to employment have been reduced for many people, with workers who might have previously been dissuaded now encouraged to look for work.”

Mr Ayres said youth unemployment also remained low at 9.9 per cent, below the national youth unemployment rate of 11.5 per cent, which is a testament to the work of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to create opportunity for the state’s youth.

“We have been working to promote clearer pathways so young people can make informed decisions about their employment as well as taking employers on the journey to create more youth inclusive environments,” Mr Ayres said.
