Nsw Tourism Champions Showcased Online

Sydney and New South Wales’ tourism industry champions have shared their inspiring stories in a video series that takes future holidaymakers behind the scenes to motivate them to support local when planning their next escape once non-essential travel advice is updated.

The 49 Local Stories were launched today by Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres and Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh in recognition of leading Coffs Harbour operator, Clark Webb of Wajaana Yaam Gumbaynggirr Adventure Tours, who features in the series.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney said the series, produced by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, will feature across social media, YouTube, Destination NSW websites and in paid advertising for intrastate audiences.

“Many Sydney and NSW businesses rely on visitors to keep their doors open, and in regional towns tourism can support the entire community, which is why we want people to meet the everyday champions behind the businesses,” Mr Ayres said.

“It is the passion and ingenuity of our tour operators, brewers, distillers, accommodation providers, chefs and winemakers that make for unique and unforgettable NSW travel experiences we are all hungry for.”

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said it was exciting to see Wajaana Yaam Gumbaynggir Adventure Tours involved, showcasing the rich diversity of experiences on offer in the region.

“Coffs Harbour is known as an oasis for its beautiful beaches and bushland, along with the warm hospitality of its people like Clark who truly love sharing their stories and knowledge with visitors,” Mr Singh said.

There are 11 Sydney-based Local Stories including Mr. Wong’s Dan Hong, Margret Campbell of Dreamtime Southern X Tours and James Christopher of Brix Distillers, and 38 videos from the regions including Goonoo Goonoo Station in Tamworth, Borambola Wines near Wagga Wagga and Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures.

“There’s no doubt these businesses have suffered. The best way we can help is by planning a post COVID restriction getaway that gives back – commit to a long weekend or family holiday and see what makes Sydney and NSW special,” Mr Ayres said.

The Local Stories will roll out over the coming weeks as part of Destination NSW’s tourism recovery campaign, Love NSW. It is a multi-channel campaign that promotes NSW’s world-class experiences to inspire potential travellers through advertising and publicity, deals with industry partners and collaboration right across the travel distribution network.

The current NSW Health advice says there is currently no limit on the distance that a person may travel, however NSW Health recommends non-essential domestic travel should be avoided.
