Penrith Applauds Local Seniors with Achievement Award During Nsw Seniors Festival

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith today thanked the outstanding seniors of Penrith for their significant contributions to the community, when he announced the recipients of the 2018 NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Award.

“The individuals recognised today represent the diversity of talent, generosity of spirit and limitless energy of seniors in Penrith,” Stuart Ayres said.

The award winners acknowledged today include:

  • Mr Derek Hawthorn for his service to the Penrith Community Kitchen,
  • Mrs Shirley O’Brien for her service to the Nepean Valley RSL Day Club.

“My congratulations to these outstanding seniors, who utilise their knowledge, and skills and put in the hard work to enrich our local community.”

The Awards aim to highlight the achievements of older people as part of the 2018 NSW Seniors Festival, which is celebrating its 60th Diamond Anniversary this year.

An estimated 500,000 seniors are expected to attend more than 1,000 events held across the state from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 15 April 2018.

The activities support the NSW Ageing Strategy, which outlines the NSW Government’s commitment to help people live healthy, active and fulfilling lives in later life.
