Stuart Ayres and Barry O’Farrell to fix Victoria Bridge

Liberal Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres MP has delivered on his promise to fix Victoria Bridge, as Barry O’Farrell committed $20 million in funds towards the bridge from a NSW Liberals and Nationals Government.

Stuart Ayres MP, at Victoria Bridge with Barry O’Farrell and Joe Grassi of the Victoria Bridge Taskforce said that this was a defining moment for Penrith.

”Victoria Bridge has been a problem for decades, and under 16 years of Labor inaction the problem has only been allowed to grow worse,” Mr Ayres said.

”Every day pedestrians and cyclists and other users of the bridge deal with these safety problems. I can’t count the number of people who have spoken to me in the street, or while I have been door knocking, to raise their concerns.

”When I was preselected as the Liberal candidate for Penrith in April last year the first thing I did was to call Barry and his team and to make sure they knew Victoria Bridge had to be fixed. Since then I have raised the issue of the bridge in Parliament and amongst my colleagues time and time again. Now I have come back to the people of Penrith to show them that the Liberals do deliver on their promises.”

Barry O’Farrell said that this was real change for Penrith.

”I congratulate Stuart on the work he has put in to getting Victoria Bridge fixed. At the time of the Penrith by-election last year I said that that date would be a turning point for Western Sydney.

”My commitment, and Stuart’s, of $20 million towards improving Victoria Bridge is a clear sign to Penrith that after Labor has ignored the region and taken it for granted over 16 years, it is only a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government that will look out for their future.”

Joe Grassi joined Barry O’Farrell in thanking Stuart Ayres MP.

”The Victoria Bridge Taskforce has worked to ensure the bridge remained a focus after the by-election had passed. Stuart Ayres has been a strong supporter of our work, and on behalf of the Taskforce I want to thank him for fixing Victoria Bridge.”

Stuart Ayres said that this was a clear point of difference between the Keneally Government of cheap talk and the NSW Liberals & Nationals.

”The NSW Liberals & Nationals have a realistic and achievable plan for NSW. This commitment of $20 million in funding towards fixing Victoria Bridge is not only a welcome investment in the community, it’s a strong message that only the NSW Liberals & Nationals will deliver results to Penrith and make NSW number one again.’
