Sydney to Come Alive with the Sounds Of Sunset Piazza

A new COVID-safe outdoor concert series will give Sydneysiders the chance to immerse themselves in live performance and music, right in the heart of the city this summer.

Sunset Piazza will feature 32 nights of performances from 28 January to 21 March at a dedicated theatre stage installed at Cathedral Square, Sydney, headlined by Peking Duck (DJ Set), Ben Lee, Sneaky Sound System, Opera Australia and more.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the initiative would help bring Sydney back to life with tickets for all events just $25.

“The NSW Government has been working closely with the City of Sydney to develop Sunset Piazza as a result of our Summer Summit to get our city buzzing again in a COVID-safe way,” Mr Perrottet said.

“We want Sydneysiders and NSW residents to reconnect with our spectacular Harbour City, not only for their own enjoyment but to support the many local businesses who rely on foot traffic, particularly throughout the warmer months.”

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the multi-genre Sunset Piazza program would entertain guests and support the city.

“We want to support our CBD businesses by providing Sydneysiders with opportunities to enjoy their city in a COVID-safe way,” Mr Ayres said.

Sunset Piazza is the perfect opportunity to plan an evening relaxing among the surrounds of our CBD while enjoying live music and grabbing a bite to eat from the many nearby cafes, eateries and restaurants.”

Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney Clover Moore said Sunset Piazza would enliven the city centre with a diverse program of live music and performance.

“Together with the NSW Government, we have invested $20 million into our Al Fresco City initiative. Sunset Piazza will extend our long summer nights right through to March and provide affordable and COVID-safe entertainment for local residents, office workers and visitors,” Cr Moore said.

Sunset Piazza is one of the great ideas that came out of the Summer Summit, alongside more outdoor dining, lunchtime entertainment and art installations to support local businesses and artists, and bring people back into the city safely.”

All events will follow COVID-safe regulations and guests are reminded to follow the latest NSW Health advice regarding social distancing, hygiene and staying home if unwell.
