Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres announced $1.7 million in grant funding for the Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC) to help them provide services to Aboriginal clients under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“The SRAC is a not-for-profit Aboriginal corporation based in Western Sydney which supports Aboriginal people with disabilities with access to culturally appropriate services to help them live and work independently,” Mr Ayres said.

“I’m delighted the SRAC was one of just 10 businesses across NSW that secured a grant from the NSW Government’s $19 million Disability Sector Scale-Up (DSSU) program to help them make the most of the rollout of the NDIS,” he said.

SRAC CEO Katherine Schreyenberg said the grant would support the development of a range of initiatives and help the team improve their engagement with Aboriginal communities,

“We intend to use part of the grant to provide culturally appropriate outreach services for Aboriginal people living with disabilities and their families,” Ms Schreyenberg.

“The grant also allows us to create an Aboriginal NDIS Service Delivery Hub or incubator where we’ll provide office space to Aboriginal NDIS service providers who are starting up their business,”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Skills and Small Business John Barilaro congratulated the SRAC on their success in a very competitive grant program.

“More than 250 businesses applied for the Business Acceleration Grant program so as you can imagine competition was fierce,” Mr Barilaro said.

“While the businesses selected are exceptional and innovative, the quality of all applicants showcased the exciting opportunities for businesses with the rollout of the NDIS and I congratulate them all,” he said.

Minister for Disability Services Ray Williams said the Disability Sector Scale-Up was a key part of the NSW Government’s $100 million Smart, Skilled & Hired initiative.

“As well as grant funding, the DSSU also provides low cost advisory services for small businesses across the state through Business Connect to help them identify and capitalise on opportunities that emerge as a result of the NDIS,” he said.
