Wallabies and England Set for Historic Test at the Scg

The hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground will host its first international rugby match in more than 35 years with Australia to face-off against England on 16 July.

The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in partnership with Rugby Australia, has secured the all-important third and final match of the eToro England series, with the iconic venue setting the scene for a potential series-deciding showdown.

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade, Minister for Tourism and Sport and Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said this was an event not to be missed.

“I am delighted we have secured the third and potentially deciding match of the eToro England Series, which is definitely one to mark down on the calendar,” Mr Ayres said.

“Sydney is the birthplace of Australian Rugby and the SCG is one of the most iconic sporting arenas in the world, so it is only fitting that the most important match of the series against our old foe is played in the Harbour City.

“This will be the first game of international rugby at the famous old venue since 1986 and possibly one of the biggest home games for the Wallabies in recent memory, so it will be fantastic to see the SCG grandstands full of gold jerseys.

“The NSW Government has been a leading supporter for the return of international sport and this crucial rugby test adds further weight to our already incredible line-up of world-class sporting events across Sydney and NSW over the coming months.”

Rugby Australia CEO Andy Marinos said it was exciting to have tickets on sale for what promises to be a crucial matchup ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“There’s been significant interest in our presale windows for what’s going to be a blockbuster match and we look forward to writing another chapter in the rich history of Australia vs England in the sporting arena at the SCG.

“This match is extremely important for the Wallabies as they continue to build momentum ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup and there’s no doubt Eddie Jones will have England at their best come July.”

Tickets for the eToro England series go on sale to the general public at midday on Thursday 28 April and can be purchased at www.wallabies.rugby/tickets
